Rishikesh, 05 August 2024: THDC India Limited, a leading Power Sector CPSU, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful first-time mechanical spinning of Unit-5 of Tehri PSP, India’s First Variable Speed PSP (250×4 MW) on August 3, 2024.
Shri R K Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, conveyed his heartfelt congratulation to Team PSP for this significant achievement. Shri R K Vishnoi said that this achievement is a pivotal step towards the Commissioning of India’s largest Pumped Storage Plant by any CPSE’s of the Country.
With this landmark achievement, we are poised to commission and fully operationalize the Tehri Hydro Power Complex, which will harness its total capacity of 2400 MW. As India’s largest hydropower complex, this milestone represents a major advancement in our commitment to expanding and optimizing the nation’s renewable energy infrastructure
Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), also lauded the dedicated efforts of the Tehri PSP team and extended congratulations to THDCIL’s site team, consortium partners (M/s GEPIL & HCC), and other stakeholders. His commendation recognized the collective efforts that led to this significant accomplishment.
He added that following the filling of the penstock, TRT, HRT, DSSS, and USSS structures with water, the machine was effectively rotated from the Distributed Control System (DCS). The initial run of the machine demonstrated stability with satisfactory vibration and airgap values.
Shri L P Joshi, Executive Director (Tehri Complex), also congratulate Team Tehri PSP for the timely achievement of this milestone. The event was attended by senior officials from THDCIL, GEPIL, HCC, PES, Tractebel (THDCIL Consultant), and other stakeholders. With this successful milestone, the Tehri PSP is poised for the next phases of final testing for Unit-05, setting the stage for its upcoming synchronization with the Indian Grid.
