New Delhi, 30 October 2024: Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects & Technical), NHPC visited Bhutan as part of Indian delegation for round table conference as panelist. The Round table conference was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry in partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation, Bhutan. The Round Table Session on “India-Bhutan Renewable Energy Roundtable,” was held in Thimphu on 28.10.24, supported by the MNRE, GoI & and the Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources , Royal Government of Bhutan.
During the session on ” Hydropower sector development” in the conference, Director (Projects & Technical), NHPC alongwith co-panellists Shri Mohhamad Afzal, JS ( Hydro), Shri Karma P. Dorji, DG, Dept. of Energy, Bhutan & Shri Chhewang Rinjin, MD, DGPC discussed the way forward for speedy development of Hydro Power potential in Bhutan. On 29.10.24, Director ( Project & Technical), NHPC alongwith Sh Sandeep Batra, GGM ( Civil) held a meeting with Sh Gem Tshering, Minister of Energy & Natural Resources and Dasho Chhewang Rinjin, MD, DGPC & Sh Karma Tshewang, Chief Engineer, Dept. of Energy, Bhutan.
During the meeting, Director (Projects & Technical), NHPC apprised NHPC’s association with development of hydropower in Bhutan, capabilities of NHPC regarding concept to commissioning of hydro projects & NHPC’s intention to play further role in development of Hydro sector in Bhutan.
The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the past association of NHPC in Bhutan & expressed desire that modalities for further collaboration shall be worked out, particularly for the larger storage based Hydro projects.
